“Role of Islamic Microfinance Institutions in Providing Islamic Home Financing Facility”

Islamic microfinance represents the confluence of two rapidly growing industries: microfinance and Islamic finance. Islamic microfinance is still in its infancy, and business models are just emerging. Indonesia is a growing population country with the average population growth rate 1.6 percent per annum. The housing demand grew tremendously without sufficient supply. In 2008, there is a gap between the supply and demand of housing as of 8 million housing units and this number will grow significantly for the years forward. The biggest portion of the gap is on the middle-low income segment which is the target market of Islamic microfinance institutions.

However, in fact, Islamic cooperatives suffer from much the same set of problems as the whole cooperative sector. There is little chance for any intervention to be successful in the short run. They need a system of prudential regulation, mandatory auditing, and effective supervision by an appropriate financial authority.

Therefore, IBFI-Trisakti takes this opportunity to organize this seminar that has been designed to provide comprehensive and practical knowledge on how to leverage the existence of around 3000 Islamic microfinance institutions in Indonesia in providing of housing scheme for the mid-low income people.

Papers must be original contributions and written in English or Bahasa Indonesia. Electronic submission should be
sent in MS Word format (Arial font 11, line spacing 1) to the academic contacts
provided below.

QUALIFIED:
Individuals will referee the submitted papers through a process of double blind
peer review. Accepted papers will be the copyright of
the conference organizers and published in the Seminar
Proceedings.  Selected completed papers will be considered for publication
in the Journal of Trisakti
